Practical experience is gained in the areas of compounding, dispensing, mathematics, data entry and computer processing, drug-body interactions and drug delivery systems to name a few. Students are taught about different pharmaceutical environments like hospital, small business and retail and practice the customer service skill sets needed for each. They also have good understanding of the dynamic duties and skill sets needed for a Pharmacy Technician through real-world experiences in conflict management and communications. Our colleges have excellent faculty who have professional expertise and are highly experienced in the pharmaceutical field of study. A practicum in a community pharmacy teaches students through practical work experience. The Pharmacy Technician program also provides career development sessions to help with interview skills, job searches and career counseling. On graduating from this program, students become eligible to write the certification examination of the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board of Alberta (PTCB-AB). They can also register themselves with Alberta's professional association for Pharmacy Technicians - the Canadian Association of Pharmacy Technicians – Alberta (CAPT-AB).
