Medical Office Assistant

A Medical Office Assistant works in the heart of the health care industry. Our featured colleges offer the Medical Office Assistant Diploma program which is of 32 weeks duration. During the course of this program, students learn all aspects of a medical office, from technical to administrative skills. Students are taught the best practices and latest medical office skills such as book keeping, computer skills, transcribing medical information, preparing and administering basic medical tests, organizing medical records and operating specialized billing software. On the medical front, the curriculum focuses on anatomy and diseases, medical terminology, clinical procedures and pharmacology. MOAs also receive training on answering basic questions raised by patients regarding their condition and medication. Sustainability is another key area of the program which teaches how to “green up” your work and home life. A five week practicum at the end of the program provides the vital real- world experience for students. The program also has supporting courses for developing customer relation and interpersonal skills, focus on job searching and career development. Certificates and diplomas awarded on completion of the program include the Medical Office Assistant Diploma, a Standard First Aid Certificate and a CPR “C” Certificate. Employment is in positions of admitting clerk, medical transcriptionist, receptionist, billing clerk, medical office assistant and medical secretary upon graduation.
