You can aim for a career in a range of professional dental offices from those of a general dentist to those of specialized dentists like orthodontists and oral surgeons. The Dental Receptionist Coordinator program equips students with the knowledge of fundamental medical terminology and skills of office administration and computers. Students are introduced to Microsoft Word and Excel, and medical terminology, anatomy and physiology and medical fundamentals at the beginning of the course. Later as they become well versed with the course, they are taught dental administrative practices such as transcription, dental reception procedures and software applications. During the diploma program students are expected to complete an 80 hour work experience from one of the approved practicum. This provides students with firsthand knowledge of a real work environment and a chance showcase their dentaltal administration skills on the job. Additionally, the Dental Receptionist Coordinator program also has a course for workplace skills which focuses on interviewing techniques, job searching, employer expectations and job counseling.
