Community Health Care Worker

Make a difference in your community and in the lives of people needing specialized care by taking up a career in care giving. The Community Health Care Worker program from one of our featured colleges gives you hands – on training for work in schools, care facilities and community centres, residencies, special needs facilities and more through a 43- week intensive program. A team of highly experienced and trained instructors teach the skills needed to work with special needs patients, behavioral disabilities, geriatric patients, patients with developmental disorders and mental health disorders. Students learn various alternative methods such as recreational activities planning and rehabilitation program using music and art therapy. Practical work is divided into three segments for students to gain overall experience. Students spend 3 weeks in a non – clinical facilityy like a school or community centre, the next 3 weeks in an intermediate care centre and the last 4 weeks in an extended care centre. Graduates receive a number of certifications besides the Community Health Care Worker Diploma like Long Term Geriatric Care Aid Certificate, Alzheimer's Certificate, Resident Care Attendant Diploma, Mental Health Community Care Certificate, Basics of Medications Certificate, Standard First Aid Certificate, a WHMIS Certificate, CPR "C" Certificate and Food Safe Level 1 Certificate. On graduation you will be fully prepared to enter the professionally and personally satisfying career of community health care.
