Currently the chances of qualified Insurance Underwriters finding employment are considered to be fair in the local area. As the industry tends to centralize many of its services in Halifax, there are a fairly high number of workers in the occupation locally, and replacement positions may occur as people retire. There also have been expansions and new operations in the area in recent years. Individuals with professional designations and several years of senior experience can be in demand at times, however, opportunities tend to be fewer for less experienced or entry level workers who may need to enter the industry in other positions and then take related courses. Some parts of the underwriting process have become automated, but there will continue to be a need for senior, technical expertise. Internal hiring may be common among some companies, which lessens the number of advertised vacancies.
